We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to lead and oversee database management, ensuring optimal performance, high availability, and security.
This role requires expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning.
The Senior DBA will mentor junior team members and contribute to database strategy, optimization, and automation.
Duties and Responsibilities:Design, implement, and maintain high-availability SQL database environments.Lead database performance tuning efforts, optimising queries, indexes, and execution plans.Develop and enforce database security policies, access controls, and compliance standards.Implement and manage replication, clustering, and Always-On Availability Groups for redundancy.Oversee database backup strategies, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning.Monitor database health, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement solutions proactively.Work closely with development teams to design efficient database structures and data models.Automate database administration tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or third-party tools.Stay up to date with emerging database technologies, best practices, and security trends.Mentor and train junior DBAs and database developers.Requirements:7+ years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator.Expert-level knowledge of SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 and advanced database administration.Strong experience with performance tuning, query optimisation, and troubleshooting.Deep expertise in backup, recovery, and high-availability (HA/DR) solutions.Hands-on experience with replication, log shipping, clustering, and Always-On Availability Groups.Strong knowledge of database security, encryption, and compliance standards.Experience working with cloud-based databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL).Proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, PowerShell scripting, and database automation.Experience leading and mentoring junior DBAs and collaborating with cross-functional teams.Preferred Qualifications & Qualities:Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or SQL Server Database Administrator.Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cosmos DB, DynamoDB) is a plus.Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and database version control.Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and strategic mindset.
