With a clear strategy and focus on Copper projects from early stage concept development through to advanced exploration, we now have an opportunity for a Superintendent – Operations to join our team in a role based in Santiago, Chile.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Superintendent Operations is responsible for the delivery of specialized operations planning, resources, logistics and drilling services in the country at all stages of the exploration lifecycle. The role is accountable for the operational elements of all field activities within defined scope, supporting Greenfield discovery, against safety, volume and cost objectives. The key responsibilities include:Accountable for:
developing, approving (where applicable) and executing the applicable Execution Plan(s);
approving operations-specific Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) related Management Plans covering Environment, Security, Crisis and Emergency Management, Hazardous Materials, Health, Fatigue and other Management Plans required by the Exploration Management System;
day-to-day supervision of operations personnel and contractors, except those managed through the Functional Groups;
day-to-day management of all operations;
investigating HSE incidents and implementing improvements; and training, including HSE related training
Provides direct input to Field Operations plans, liaising with support functions to ensure understanding of project execution and the resulting required development/input by support functions into applicable Plans
Accountable for field execution of project activities associated with data acquisition (drill core/geophysics)
Accountable for performance against operational budgets (OPEX), including input on budgets for Exploration
Holds team accountable for performance to plan and budget through regular reviews and performance verification
Ensures Operational Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are clearly established within teams and aligned to specific objectives and cascaded, tracked and measured through regular operational review
Drives operational discipline through Operations leadership, ensuring individuals understand their roles, holding individuals accountable for their performance and reinforcing compliance with Business Critical Documents (BCD’s)
Accountable for the health, safety, environment and community outcomes of the operation as they are affected by the actions and behaviors of an operation’s workforce and the operation and performance of plant, equipment and business systems
Ensures that controls to identified material risks are effective and operational
Support services
Accountable for the day to day oversight of business partners performance, including relationship management, performance review and contract governance in support of key objectives (service quality, compliance, cost and reduced cycle time)
Drives project drilling performance KPI’s using the above approach. Establishes expectations, manages performance and holds business partners accountable for delivery to plan
Accountable for the establishment and management of projects, including camp, camp services, supply, logistics and infrastructure required to support exploration activity
Works, in collaboration with Supply, to develop and maintain relationships with local contractors and suppliers and ensures alignment of the contractual obligations, terms and scope
Maintains a continuing review of the progress of each contract and provides management with information regarding any financial, legal, performance or technical difficulties.
Maintaining day to day correspondence with Contractors, preparing contract variations requests, as required, and in collaboration with Supply negotiates with contractors to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
