Paper Mill Chemist

The Mill Chemical Engineer works alongside the production team in order to maximize safety, quality and production. The Mill Chemical Engineer will be directly responsible for the management of all chemical systems.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(Other duties may be assigned)The Mill Chemical Engineer?s primary responsibilities as part of the startup team include, but are not limited to:Planning, designing, and ordering the proper chemical and starch delivery systemsEnsuring the proper installation of the above chemical and starch delivery systemsCommissioning the above systemsParticipating in all chemical supplier negotiations, including the final determination of programs and suppliersAfter startup,the Mill Chemical Engineer?s primary responsibilities as part of the mill operational team include, but are not limited to:Maintaining safety standards in the chemical areasMaintaining chemical inventoriesMaintaining chemical delivery systemsDetermining, reporting and optimizing chemical costsEvaluating trialsTraining operators on chemical and general technical conceptsMonitoring, maintaining and reporting Air and Water PermittingEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:The educational requirements are four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Pulp and Paper Science,Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, or a related field.The experience requirements are five years of Paper Mill Chemical experience or Chemical Technical Service.Paper Mill experience is preferred.LANGUAGE SKILLS:MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:REASONING ABILITY:TECHNICAL SKILLS:Chemistry Papermaking Papermaking ChemistryMicrosoft Office Products Computer Literacy TroubleshootingProcess Engineering Mechanical aptitude Electrical aptitudeCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:B.S.Pulp and Paper ScienceB.S. Hearing protection is required. This position will be on the production floor approximately 65% of the time.
