Detalles de la oferta

Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a brand-new astronomical facility currently under construction in Chile, with staff based in Tucson, Arizona. Rubin Observatory will undertake the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) which promises to be one of the largest and most comprehensive astronomy surveys of its kind which is sure to fundamentally change how humanity perceives and understands the Universe in which we live. Rubin Observatory will enable countless discoveries in almost every area of modern astronomical research?discoveries made possible by the team that built the Rubin Observatory system, and by the global science community that Rubin Observatory serves. Rubin is searching for an experienced System Integration Manager to work closely with the Observatory Scientist to lead the efforts for bringing the hardware and software elements of the system together to achieve an operational observing system that produces science ready images. This effort is heavily focused on the summit to achieve key milestones for Engineering First Light (ComCam images on sky) and System First Light (Camera images on sky). The Systems Integration Manager is responsible for orchestrating the work by keeping the schedule, priorities and work flow defined. The System Integration Manager and Observatory Scientist will have a core team to support the planning, analysis, and execution with expertise in hardware, control software and some Data Management (DM) pipeline modules. The majority of the labor to execute the integration work will come from other Project Teams. The System Integration leadership is therefore responsible for working with the Project Leadership Team to advocate, negotiate and integrate resources to address the activities. The System Integration work is at the nexus of Project activities and will work with the Project Office to set and implement priorities across the Project. The preference is for this position to be based in La Serena, Chile; being based in Tucson, Arizona, may be considered. The System Integration Manager and Observatory Scientist will work closely with each of the delivery groups (DM, Camera, and Telescope & Site) to accept elements of the system as they are completed and will then be responsible for integrating them into the system. They will also work with the subsystem groups to understand the technical and schedule availability of deliverable elements and will prioritize any incremental subsystem deliveries for highest level of system integration optimization. The System Integration Team will work closely with the Verification and Validation team to ensure intermittent unit testing is included and that system level tests are included and documented. The Project will be addressing early commissioning in parallel with system integration so a close coordination with Commissioning Leadership is also necessary. The System Integration Manager will largely be focused on the scheduling, coordination and progress tracking of the integration work. Emerging issues will arise and the System Integration leadership will assess these and work with the Project Office to develop plans for resolution. The System Integration Manger will then lead the effort to establish revised approaches and plans as necessary to move the overall integration efforts forward as efficiently as possible. The System Integration group will have staff experience with both hardware and software systems. This core team will originate from NSF and DOE funded institutions as well as possibly staff from in-kind contributors. The System Integration Manager and Observatory Scientist will coordinate for a single unified team but formal staff and budgets responsibilities will be divided along funding lines (Manger ? NSF, Observing Scientist - DOE) The Project uses JIRA for daily work planning and has direct correlations of epics with activities in the formal Primavera based Project Management Baseline. This correlation allows for smooth monthly status interaction with the Project Office and Project Controls group but the System Integration Manager is responsible for ensuring the JIRA project accurately reflects progress and will be responsible for working with the group on any variance analysis and reporting as needed. The System Integration Manager will focus on activity planning and progress reporting through JIRA. Essential Functions:Work closely with the Observatory Scientist to lead the Project System Integration effort. Plan, prioritize, coordinate and manage the System Integration activities. Collaborate with the Project Manager and Project Leadership to establish strategies to execute the Program plan efficiently throughout all phasesof the Project. Advocate for priorities and work with the PMO and Leadership team to get resources and/or get System Integration tasks assigned to other teams. Work Closely with System Verification and Validation Leadership and the System Commissioning Leadership to effectively address the scope for each group in the process of System Integration. Monitor Integration Schedule progress and organize monthly status reporting Supervise core System Integration team staff and manage the assigned (NSF) budget. Required Education/Experience/Skills/Abilities:Bachelor?s Degree plus 10 years of experience in complex hardware/software system integration projects. 5 years of experience in the coordination/management of system integration efforts. Skilled and adept in working with complex systems. Highly organized and articulate both verbally and in writing ? Fluent in English. Willing and able to travel internationally and to work at 2900 meters altitude. Preferred Education/Experience/Skills/Abilities:Willing to reside in Chile during the System Integration efforts. Fluent in Spanish. Technical background in a related hardware or control software discipline. Prior experience with JIRA for work planning and control. Physical Demands:a cover letter and a CV or resume, PDF files preferred. Please name any attachments with the following format:
