Position title NOC Engineer Tier II Description The successful Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer II will carry out comprehensive network surveillance to ensure the stability and integrity of our production network. The primary responsibility of this role is to maintain network reliability, serving our clients by delivering support aimed at enhancing the network's health and stability. The engineer collaborates closely with internal teams, hardware and software vendors, and facility providers to address and resolve infrastructure issues. Duties include monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing issues related to Optical, SONET, DWDM, CWDM, Ethernet, and IP products and services, with a robust understanding of Layer 1, 2, and 3 technologies across various hardware and software platforms. The position demands the ability to work independently and as part of a team, multitask, and adapt in a dynamic environment, along with exceptional communication skills to keep both external customers and internal stakeholders regularly updated on repairs. This role supports a 24x7x365 operation, requiring flexibility to work weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Collaborate with Local Exchange Carriers (LECs), Interexchange Carriers (IXCs), vendors, internal teams, and customers to effectively troubleshoot network impairments and outages. Utilize ServiceNow for ticketing, documentation, escalation, and dispatching field operations. Adhere to internal and external escalation procedures within Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Monitor network alarm systems and network equipment for service outages and degradation. Conduct troubleshooting for various network issues, including Electrical/Optical/DWDM/SONET/Ethernet and fiber technologies. Detect and manage network-impacting events, adhering to contract commitments. Conduct fault analysis, isolation, and remediation across multiple technology domains. Manage core network events, documenting all alerts and actions. Serve as a Single Point of Contact for high-risk and service-impacting events. Liaise with customers, engineers, vendors, and technicians to resolve issues. Provide technical support during network events affecting service. Perform maintenance tasks such as configuration changes, reloads, and hardware upgrades. Train NOC Tier I & II engineers on processes and technologies. Participate in various projects as required. Operate within a 24x7x365 NOC environment, including shift work and weekends. Qualifications 2-3+ years of experience in a NOC environment within the telecommunications industry. Experience collaborating with other Carrier NOCs. Cisco CCNA or equivalent certification preferred. Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. In-depth knowledge of IP protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Spanning Tree, ISIS) and CWDM/DWDM technologies. Experience with platforms such as Calix, Nokia, Ciena, Ekinops, Juniper, and others. Proficiency in troubleshooting SONET and understanding Layer 1-3 networking. Skilled in using network troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, telnet, SSH, SNMP). Capable of managing multiple network alerts and determining their impact. Effective in directing field technicians and personnel during troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience with circuit testing procedures and equipment. Knowledge of fiber optics, OTDR readings, and GIS systems. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools. Ability to work independently and in a team, manage time effectively, and handle urgent issues outside normal working hours.
