IFC's Infrastructure Department forLatin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is recruiting an Associate InvestmentOfficer to work in helping identify business opportunities; support thestructuring and execution of infrastructure investment transactions (projectfinance, corporate finance, equity and hybrid instruments); and actively manageportfolio investments in core infrastructure sectors (water, energy, transport,waste, municipal infrastructure and telecom). The new hire should beavailable to engage in infrastructure projects throughout the Southern Cone LACregion (including Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay) but with a focus on Chile. Theoverall goal of the job holder is to perform the regular activities of anAssociate at a Project Finance/Infrastructure department. The candidate isrequired to know and effectively use financial modeling, thus familiarity withExcel is a strict requirement, as well as with Spanish and English.
Willingness to travel is required. Theappointee will be stationed in Santiago, Chile reporting to IFC'sRegional Lead for the Infrastructure team and to the LAC Infrastructure RegionalManager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Support transaction teams during investment due diligence and execution. Prepareinvestment committee materials, evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close newtransactions.
• Draft andpresent memos of relevant early-stage investment opportunities for discussionwith management.
• Activelymanage and/or support portfolio investments, including credit risk assessment,financial analysis, processing waivers, disbursements, etc.
• Assist inmapping and screening business opportunities in infrastructure sectors;undertaking market research and performing corresponding integrity checks.
• Build complex financial models from scratch,perform financial analysis, and/or provide quality control over financialanalysis and projections developed by an analyst to evaluate the benefits andrisks of investments.
• Producecountry and sector analysis, marketing materials, and pitch books.
• Support thedevelopment of a strong pipeline of investment opportunities by anticipatingmarket trends and employing sector/country knowledge.
• Coordinateclosely with social, environmental, legal, and technical specialists to addvalue to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to specific sectorchallenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.
• Support teamsmanaging relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses,banking and multilateral partners, and government officials to further developthe sector and to develop specific investment opportunities.
Selection Criteria
Thefollowing are requirements (candidates will not be considered if they do notmeet any of those):
• A master's degree in a related field ofeducation, including business, finance, or economics, or an area of expertisespecific to a sector or industry specialty.
• Ability toconduct business in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
• 4–8 years ofrelevant experience. Relevant experience could include project finance, privateequity, or investment and commercial banking.
• Strongknowledge of Excel and financial modeling, and ability to analyze and formconclusions on company financial information.
The following are highlydesirable:
• Experience ininfrastructure transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly inChile and the Southern Cone.
• Genuine interest in, and knowledge ofrelevant infrastructure and regional sector trends.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability tointeract effectively and independently with clients and colleagues from variouscultural backgrounds.
• Highly motivated, and committed to the highestethical standards.
• Genuine commitment to sustainabledevelopment.
• Interest inworking in a multicultural work environment.
• Proactivity to lead and take accountability for specific workstreams in thetransaction processing.
